LOGAN COUNTY
Oklahoma voters settled several key races during the Aug. 25 runoff election, including a closely watched House District 38 contest that covers northern Logan County.
Madison Bolay won the Republican nomination for House District 38, defeating Danielle Deterding. Bolay received 3,521 votes, or 58.05%, to Deterding’s 2,544 votes, or 41.95%. Bolay will advance to the Nov. 3 general election, where she will face Democrat Doyle Lewis.
The runoff also determined Republican nominees for several statewide offices.
Mike Mazzei narrowly defeated Attorney General Gentner Drummond for the Republican nomination for governor. Mazzei received 50.3% of the vote to Drummond’s 49.7%. Mazzei will face Democrat Cyndi Munson in November.
Robert Franklin won the Republican nomination for state superintendent of public instruction, defeating James Taylor with 54.63% of the vote. Franklin will face Democrat Jennettie Marshall in November.
In the labor commissioner race, state Rep. Kevin West defeated fellow Republican John Pfeiffer, 58.28% to 41.72%. West will face Democrat Kevin Dawson and Libertarian Mike Hall in November.
Bob Sullivan won the Republican nomination for insurance commissioner, defeating Marty Quinn, 55.13% to 44.87%. Sullivan will face Democrat Craig MacIntyre in the general election.
Voters also rejected State Question 844, with nearly 74% voting no. The measure would have changed how the state reimburses local governments and school districts for property tax revenue lost through Oklahoma’s five-year manufacturing tax exemption. The proposal would have given the Legislature authority to establish a reimbursement methodology rather than continuing the current constitutional guarantee of full reimbursement.
Voters approved State Question 846, which amends the Oklahoma Constitution to require proof of identity when voting.
The general election is Nov. 3.
