Committee Work Over for Now

The first month of every legislative session is dedicated primarily to committee work. All bills and joint resolutions must first go through the committee process before they are eligible to be heard by the full body of representatives on the House floor. They then must pass the Senate before being sent to the governor for consideration of being signed into law.

Guthrie Baseball Opens the Terry Bennett Era with A Bang

If you had come to the Bluejays home opener this past Friday and only watched the top of the first inning, you could be forgiven for believing the Jays were doomed to a rough season. But they got past it and exploded, with a victory that carried them through the weekend and gave head coach Terry Bennett a very promising debut.

Two Bars Permanently Close

Guthrie’s drinking community is a little less happy this week, with the closure of Mack & Ike’s, which had been located adjacent to the distillery at the northwest corner of Oklahoma and Wentz. The ownership of Mack & Ike’s announced late Friday in a Facebook post that the bar would be closing permanently, although the post claimed that something new would be put in its place.

Guthrie’s “Retail Incubator” Gets Its First Building

The grant-funded “Retail Incubator” project in downtown Guthrie made a big step last week, as the first portable building was delivered. City officials Leroy Alsup, Shawnda Rooney, and Justin Fortney came to view the new building and see the progress at the site.

Guthrie Fourth Grade Class Makes Blessing Bags for Homeless

Mrs. Hinkle’s fourth graders at Fogarty worked hard this week assembling 189 “Amber McCune Blessing Bags” for the homeless and needy in memory of the mother of one of Ms. Hinkle’s students. Items such as water, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, and socks were put into gallon sandwich bags to be distributed later this month by the UCO Tomorrow’s Counselors of America Club (TADCA).

Guthrie Rotary Student of the Week

The Guthrie Rotary Club Student of the Week is Zach Henry. He is the son of Michelle Johnson and Jason Henry. Zach is active with football, baseball and drama. He was a Team Captain in football and named to the First Team All-District. Zach was on the 2021 Baseball Regional Championship team. After graduation, Zach would like to play football or baseball at the next level. If not, he will go to Rose State for radiology. Scooters Coffee Day of Giving

On January 28th, 2023 Scooters Coffee in Guthrie held a “DAY OF GIVING” that all proceeds would be donated to the Guthrie Educational Foundation to help towards funding Teacher Grants this Spring.
