‘89ers Events Seek Community Assistance And Participation

Guthrie’s ‘89er Days Parade and Celebration takes place April 18th - 22nd, and it is fast approaching. The ‘89er Committee and the City of Guthrie are working hard to finalize the preparations, and they are reaching out to the community for help in several areas.

Guthrie Rotary Club Student of the Week

The Guthrie Rotary Club Student of the Week is Lydia Wells. She is the daughter of Paul and Julie Wells. Lydia is the Student Body President, and active in Student Council, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society and played softball for 3 years. She is a Valedictorian and attended Girls State. Al Bostick at Owens Arts Museum: Stories In Art

Sunday, March 12th, the OwensArtsPlaceMuseum (OAPM) in Guthrie featured an art show and performance by Al Bostick. Bostick is a well-known Oklahoma City Renaissance artist. He’s a painter, a master storyteller, a griot, a dancer, a drummer, an actor, and a coach.

Sylvia Ochs to Retire at 93

On March 31, 2023, Ochs Real Estate will be closing its doors after 30 years. Its proprietor, Sylvia Ochs is retiring at 93 years. Following a lifetime of hard work, dedication, volunteer work, and growth, Ochs will be moving into a smaller office nearby. Her version of retirement is to keep working - only just when she wants to now and only for herself.

Logan County Conservation District Announces Cost-Share Assistance

The Logan County Conservation District has announced that funds are available for cost-share assistance on selected conservation practices benefiting soil and water conservation. The State of Oklahoma has provided limited funds to conservation district across the state to help landowners implement measures that protect soil and water resources.

Pace Quickens Toward Third-Reading Deadline

Last week was busy in the House as we considered 163 measures in advance of our third-reading deadline. Many of these bills garnered questions and some debate before they passed, making for some long sessions. We’ll have additional long days as we consider hundreds more bills before March 23, the date by which bills must pass out of their legislative chamber of origin in order to stay active this session.

Guthrie Noon Lions Club Recognizes Students

The Guthrie Noon Lions Club recently recognized two Guthrie Public High School students for their fellowship, leadership and academic achievement. Shown is Annie Chadd, High School Counselor (L) and LeAnn Ramsey,LionClubmember(R)presenting recognitionstoHaileyDrake(C)and Connor Irwin (C) for their significant achievements. Hailey is an active memberandPresidentoftheFFAChapter, is a team trainer in many sports, has been a Girls State Delegate and was crowned the 2022 Guthrie Homecoming Queen. She plans on attending Langston University and majoring in Animal Sciences. Connor is actively involved with the Concert and Jazz Choirs, Victorian Singers and the Drama Club. He is a three-year member of the National Honor Society. After graduation he intends on attending Oklahoma City University with a major in Music.”

Guthrie’s varsity baseballers thump Eagles

Head Coach Terry Bennett couldn’t have asked for a better start to the beginning of district play, as Guthrie’s varsity baseballers thumped the Del City Eagles in the home-and-home series this Monday and Tuesday.
