Guthrie High’s track teams completed their regular season in the rainshortened Suburban Conference meet on Friday and piled up a number of wins in their respective classes. The Lady Bluejays varsity team only had 11 events scored and finished second with 85 points, The boys varsity placed sixth with 35 points in 13 events.

Rick’s Fine Chocolates and Coffees has started a new regular monthly feature: Date Night. The cafe holds a date night on the third Saturday of every month.

The Board of Regents for the Oklahoma Agricultural & Mechanical Colleges has appointed Dr. Ruth Ray Jackson as interim president of Langston University, beginning July 6, 2023. Dr. Jackson will serve until a nationwide search for President Smith’s successor is completed and the University’s seventeenth president assumes office.

Oak Cliff Fire responded to reports of an explosion and subsequent fire at a commercial building in southern Logan County late Thursday afternoon. Initial calls on the blaze came in just after 4:00pm, for a building on South Sooner Road, slightly off the road in an industrial building park just north of Charter Oak Road.

Guthrie High School Senior, Peyton Hayes, has been selected from more than 51,000 other students across the country to be a recipient of The Gates Scholarship. This extraordinary honor is awarded to high school seniors who are exceptional student leaders with an outstanding academic record and exceptional personal success skills.

On Saturday, May 13, letter carriers across central and western Oklahoma will collect nonperishable food donations from homes on their routes as part of the 31st National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Oklahoma residents will receive plastic donation bags in their mailbox the week of May 8.

The murder trial of Daniel Joseph Triplett opened today with jury selection, in the courtroom of Logan County District Judge Philip Corley.

 

The Guthrie Public Schools Board of Education filled three Principal vacancies for the 2023-24 school year. Dusty Throckmorton will be the new principal at Guthrie High School, Jeff Ball will take over leadership of Guthrie Upper Elementary School and Lesley Cotton will lead Cotteral Elementary.
