One of Guthrie’s most fascinating features, the Oklahoma Frontier Drugstore Museum, is currently seeking volunteers to help with daily operations and with guiding visitors. Applicants must love history; enjoy greeting people and talking with them about the museum and its history; and be helpful in maintaining the Apothecary Garden. Duties will also include assisting the museum during the ‘89ers Day Celebration, the Victorian Christmas Walk, museum fundraisers and golf tournaments, and other annual events.

The Oklahoma Frontier Drugstore Museum has been a favorite attraction for thousands of visitors to Guthrie since 1992. On its shelves are many collections of antique and esoteric remedies and pharmaceuticals from days past. The museum features a variety of drugstore memorabilia and a 19th century soda fountain.

The Apothecary Garden is located nearby at the corner of Oklahoma Avenue and 2nd Street. The garden is a source of healing plants and herbs showcasing the intriguing combination of medical technology and the ancient art of medicinal botany. Visitors can walk through the garden and enjoy the colors and fragrances of the healing plants or rest on a bench and take in the beauty of the space. The OK Centennial Clock is the centerpiece of this serene escape in downtown Guthrie.

The Oklahoma Pharmacy Heritage Foundation manages the museum with Pam Ekiss serving as its curator and manager. Interested volunteers should contact her at (405) 282-1895.

The museum is located at 214 West Oklahoma Avenue in Guthrie. It is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
