County Tax Propositions pass

The three propositions to maintain the quarter cent sales tax in Logan County for roads, jail maintenance, and the volunteer fire departments were all approved on March 5.

The first proposition for road repairs passed 5,830 yes votes (82 percent) to 1,283 no votes (18 percent). The second proposition was for jail maintenance and upkeep at the Logan County Detention Center. There were 7,075 votes cast on that proposition. The proposition passed 68 percent (4,896 yes votes) to 32 percent (2,179 no votes). The last proposition was for the volunteer fire departments. There were 7,111 votes cast with 5,884 yes votes (83 percent) and 1,227 no votes (17 percent).

The jail proposition found the most opposition from precincts Waterloo Road, Midwest Boulevard, Douglas Boulevard, and Crescent. The Douglas precincts had 689 yes votes but also had 318 no votes, a 68 percent approval rating. The Midwest Boulevard precinct also had a 68 percent approval rating with 300 yes votes and 144 no votes. Crescent had only a 64 percent approval with 363 yes votes and 170 no votes.

The tax will be good for 15 years.
