Senior Day at the Capitol to be held March 11

Oklahoma senior citizens, caregivers, and those interested in matters affecting aging Oklahomans are invited to the State Capitol for Senior Day on Monday, March 11. Attendees will have the opportunity to share ideas, needs and concerns with their state lawmakers, visit with organizations and state agencies to learn about services for older Oklahomans, and learn about current legislation that may affect older Oklahomans.

Langston University Celebrates Black History Month

Langston University, Oklahoma’s only Historically Black College or University, has a large slate of activities planned to celebrate Black History Month. There will be a variety of educational, cultural, athletic and community- building events held across the University’s Langston, Tulsa and Oklahoma City campuses throughout February.

Guthrie Rotary Student of the Week

The Guthrie Rotary Club Student of the Week is Mariah Dightman. She is the daughter of Sheldon and Monique Dightman. Mariah is active in Lady Jays Basketball and the Heritage Club. She was named to the All-Tournament teams at the Noble and Community Christian Tournaments. Mariah was a 3rd team Suburban Conference selection in 2023. Mariah will attend college on a basketball scholarship and pursue a major in Kinesiology. She has a few college offers and will visit Coffeyville Community College this weekend. Guthrie Job Corb Culinary Arts Team wins cake contest

The Guthrie Job Corps Center’s Culinary Arts Team won the 2024 Job Corps Dallas Region Disney Cake Contest. The acting National Director, Erin McGhee, awarded the Culinary Arts team with the Disney Cake Decorating Award on Tuesday, February 6. The Guthrie Job Corps Center knocked out eight other Job Corps Center comptetitors and came out on top with a culinary creation that would have made Mickey proud.

Public Safety Women from Around Oklahoma to Gather

On February 28, 2024, female first responders and other local, state and federal public safety professional women from across Oklahoma will gather for a symposium in south Oklahoma City. It is believed this is the first such statewide gathering in the history of the state.

GPS Teacher of the Year announced

Charter Oak Elementary Interventionist Jo Ewy on Monday was named the 2023-2024 District Teacher of the Year for Guthrie Public Schools. She was recognized during Guthrie Board of Education’s February meeting.
