The Guthrie Rotary Club Student of the Week is Niko Peña._ He is the son who of Ernesto and Jamie Peña._ Niko is active in football, baseball and Student Council._ He is a Team Captain for the football team._ After graduation, Niko plans to attend OSU and become a chiropractor._ Pictured with Niko is GHS Assistant Principal, Jeanne Ambriz and Rotary President, Tyler Calvert.

Shooting at Langston University being investigated

As you may be aware, there was an isolated incident on the Langston University campus Friday November 10th involving a shot fired. The Langston University Police Department responded,_ and a person of interest was taken into custody._ The LUPD_issued an all-clear in the morning and no immediate threat exists._ Campus operations_resumed as normal._ As we understand it, the incident originated with an altercation that occurred at an off-campus location. The altercation carried over to campus where the shot was fired. _ One student sustained a nonlife- threatening injury that was_ treated, and the student has been released._ Langston University is in contact with the student_and their family._ The Langston University Police Department is taking the lead in this ongoing investigation, and the above is the information that they have confirmed and released. The Town of Langston Police Department’s involvement in this investigation is very minimal._ Certain news organizations have reported there were multiple shots fired. We cannot confirm that. Certain news organizations have reported two gunshot victims. We can confirm one non-life-threatening injury. Certain news organizations reported injuries in the hand and thigh. We cannot confirm that. Certain news organizations reported there was a suspect on the run. We cannot confirm that. Certain news organizations have given a description of the hypothetical suspect. We cannot confirm that. _ Questions we have received and responses to them:_ Question: Is the person of interest a Langston University Student?_ Answer:_At this time, we cannot confirm._The investigation by LUPD is ongoing._

City Council approves task force

The Guthrie City Council Tuesday approved the creation of a 10-person community task force to provide input for Capital Improvement Projects including the Highland Park pool. The Council will select one member from each of the seven Council wards, and three will be selected by City staff.
