Martin Luther King, Jr Day Parade Coming January 16th

Guthrie’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade will take place starting at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 16th, 2023. The parade will travel down Oklahoma Avenue from the Masonic Temple, through Historic Downtown Guthrie to the railroad tracks.

The Guthrie High School wrestling team capped off a great post season on Saturday night with a second place finish in the Class 5A team race. The Bluejays finished with 86 points, with Collinsville winning the title with 185 points. Glenpool and Pryor tied for third place with 57 points.

The crunching of colliding football pads and the piercing sound of whistles have returned to the Guthrie Bluejays' football practice field. Coach Kelly Beeby and the coaching staff have been evaluating the roster during the spring workouts.

The Guthrie track teams travelled down to Shawnee on April 8 and overcame a rough day of wind to claim the titles in the boys and the girl’s division. The Bluejays scored 134.273 points to beat out Seminole (104.546 points) and Shawnee (94.546 points).

Her commute tells it all. Haley Gallo, a Guthrie Blue Jay entering her sophomore year, loves softball. Last week, Gallo was named a 2022 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Third-Team All-American. She made the team as an outfielder. Gallo is the lone Oklahoman on the team.

Eli, Khaleah Kirk among 4 Guthrie wrestlers representing Oklahoma at Junior Nationals The three-a-days have been paying off for Eli Kirk. Kirk, a wrestler at Guthrie, competed in USA Wrestling’s Junior National Dual Championships in Tulsa from June 14-18.

The Guthrie High School baseball program will have new leadership for the 2022-23 school year. Terry Bennett, Jr. will be recommended to the GPS Board of Education as the next head coach. He has served as an assistant coach in the program for the past eight years.
