Lady Bluejays win regional track meet

Guthrie High’s Lady Bluejays won their regional track and field meet at Jenks High School on Saturday, beating out Glenpool 154-117, and tuned up for this weekend’s state meet. The boys team finished second place in its meet with 95.5 points, well behind Coweta’s 171.

After hearing a great deal of consternation within the Guthrie community around reports that the Guthrie Police Department is installing license plate reader (LPR) cameras in Guthrie, the News Leader sat down with Chief of Police Don Sweger to discuss the system and how it will be used.

Store Owner Charged with Distribution

The Guthrie Police served a search warrant yesterday at the Jeet Mart on West Noble Avenue in Guthrie. Officers arrested 58-year-old Majit Hayer, owner of Jeet Mart, for felony possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute.

Red Brick Nights season begins Saturday

Tomorrow night kicks off Red Brick Nights in Guthrie, at the corner of Oklahoma and Wentz. The featured musicians for this month are Rachel Lynch, playing at 7:00pm, Rigby Summer at 8:00pm, and Steelwind at 9:00pm. The following streets are closed from 3 p.m.

Samuel King Chapter, OSDAR, Awards Good Citizens Award

The Samuel King Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, OSDAR, recently presented the DAR Good Citizens Award to two area 2023 high school seniors. Honored were Natalee Cleveland, Edmond North High School and Landen Hirzel, Guthrie High School.
The Guthrie Rotary Club Student of the Week is Cheyenne Guymon. She is the daughter of Juanita Hayles. Cheyenne is active in Cross Country, Track & Field, National Honor Society, Academic Team, where she is the Captain. She is also a member of the Guthrie Public Library Teen Council. After graduation, Cheyenne plans to attend Southern Nazarene University on a track scholarship and will major in nursing. Pictured with Cheyenne is Rotary program speaker, Alfred Ratcliff and Rotary President, Terry Moore.

Address Confirmation Notices Mailed to Oklahoma Voters

Over the next several weeks, 326,603 registered voters in Oklahoma will receive an Address Confirmation Notice from the State Election Board. The notices are required by state law. Voters who receive an Address Confirmation Notice have 60 days to respond.
