Guthrie High School’s cross country teams got an early wake-up call Friday, when their start times for the Carl Albert Invitational were moved up two hours to avoid the heat. That meant the girls started at 7:45 a.m. and the boys around 8:20 a.m. instead of at 9:30 and 10 a.m., respectively.

It has been a long four years since Guthrie High’s crosscountry teams hosted a meet at Cottonwood Flats, but this Friday a new tradition begins. The inaugural Clay Tarter Invitational, held in honor of the late coach, will be held in Guthrie.

The Crescent Tigers and Coyle Bluejackets opened their 2023 football seasons last week with convincing non-district road wins. The Tigers defeated Mooreland 41-16 on Friday, a day after the Bluejackets beat Fox 34-6. Crescent scored four times in the first quarter to lead 28-0.

What a way to open the season! Guthrie High’s Lady Bluejays softball team won its first six games in a four-day span, starting at the Pryor Festival on Aug. 8 with a 5-2 win against Coweta and an 11-0 rout of Claremore.

On a gorgeous night at the Clay Tarter track complex, the 2023 Guthrie High School and Guthrie Junior High School hosted a One Mile run night for families and friends. Isaiah Blevins edged out GHS Head Coach Bryce Balenseifen in the boys’ mile and Peyton Read won the GHS girls’ event.

Territorial Triathlon runs course in Guthrie_

Dozens of competitors competed Saturday morning in Guthrie at the 2023 Territorial Triathlon, which serves as this year’s Oklahoma State Triathlon Championship. The annual event, founded and operated by Roger Gartman, took place on Lakeshore Drive near Guthrie Lake.

The City of Guthrie to proceed with improvements to Owen Field Softball Complex

On Wednesday, July 12, 2023 the City of Guthrie received notice from the Oklahoma Tourism & Recreation Department (OTRD) that Guthrie has been approved to proceed with the Owen Field Softball Complex improvement project.
