Playoff-bound Bluejays blank Eagles on Senior Night

Guthrie High’s football team celebrated Senior Night on Oct. 28 with a 37-0 shutout of the Lawton Eisenhower Eagles and wrapped up a playoff bid in the process. The win gives Guthrie (7-2, 3-2) third place in the district with a road game at Shawnee (0-9, 0-5) to close out the regular season.

Tigers remain undefeated with two games to go

CJ Wilson rushed for 136 yards on just six carries -- two of those touchdowns -- as the Crescent Tigers (7-0, 3-0 in district play) powered past Western Heights 42-8 in a non-district game this past Friday.

Bluejays to celebrate Senior Night on Friday

Guthrie High’s football team closes out its home schedule Friday with Senior Night as Lawton Eisenhower (2-6) provides the opposition. The Bluejays (6-2, 2-2 in the district) hope to bounce back after getting routed by Carl Albert (6-2) 41-7 last week in Midwest City.

Mayer wins XC regional; both Guthrie teams run to state

Mason Mayer’s firstplace finish at the Class 5A Regional Cross Country Meet guided Guthrie High’s boys team to a second-place finish and a berth in the state meet this week at Edmond Santa Fe. Bishop Kelley won the boys regional in Ponca City last Saturday.

This is the last installment in a seven-part series on the 2002 Guthrie Blue Jays football team. Reporter Sam Hutchens spent the summer tracking down a multitude of former players, coaches — and even a former Oklahoma City mayor — to tell the team’s championship story.

Guthrie cross country teams third at Owasso

Guthrie High’s cross country teams finished third at the Owasso meet last weekend. The Lady Bluejays collected 116 points in a field of 11 teams. Owasso won the meet with 21 points and Edmond Memorial was second with 35. Both are Class 6A schools.
