Logan County Commissioners Sign OHCE Week Proclamation

The Logan County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution and signed a proclamation at their Monday, May 1, meeting in the Courthouse Annex recognizing the Oklahoma Home and Community Education Organization for its importance in supporting families and providing science-based education and programs for persons in Logan County.

Guthrie FFA Member Wins State FFA Agricultural Policy Speech Contest

Annabella Aitken of the Guthrie FFA Chapter won first place in the agricultural policy division of the state FFA speech contest during the 2023 Oklahoma FFA Interscholastics on April 28. The agricultural policy division allows FFA members to give a six- to eight-minute prepared speech about topics such as domestic farm issues, international trade, rural economic development, politics, animal rights, law, subsidies and price supports.

Most of my time in education has been spent at the high school level or as a districtwide administrator. During that time. I’ve learned that the time between prom and graduation, regardless of how many days, goes by in the blink of an eye. On Friday, May 19th, at the Lazy E Arena, we will celebrate the Class of 2023. It is hard for me to grasp this class was in the 2nd grade when I became the Superintendent of Guthrie Public Schools.

City Council approves YMCA contract for pool operations

The Guthrie City Council Tuesday approved a contract with the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City and Guthrie YMCA for operation of the municipal swimming pool at Highland Park for the 2023 season. Public Works Director Tenny Maker said the operational agreement is a renewal of a partnership between the YMCA and City of Guthrie.

Lady Bluejays win regional track meet

Guthrie High’s Lady Bluejays won their regional track and field meet at Jenks High School on Saturday, beating out Glenpool 154-117, and tuned up for this weekend’s state meet. The boys team finished second place in its meet with 95.5 points, well behind Coweta’s 171.
