The City of Guthrie to proceed with improvements to Owen Field Softball Complex

On Wednesday, July 12, 2023 the City of Guthrie received notice from the Oklahoma Tourism & Recreation Department (OTRD) that Guthrie has been approved to proceed with the Owen Field Softball Complex improvement project. In March of 2021, Guthrie was awarded a Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant from OTRD in the amount of $1,000,000.

Airport board, with Aguirre at helm, tackles contract issues

Several topics of discussion were presented last week to the Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport Board, which elected Guthrie Vice Mayor Grant Aguirre as the Chair. As the board alternates the two-year terms of the Chair and Vice Chair, Dick Geib will continue in the Vice Chair role until next year.

The Guthrie Rotary Club Student of the Week is Micheal Fleming. Micheal is from Seminole. He is working on a welding career. After completion, he will take an advanced course and then join the Navy. His goal is to be an underwater welder in the Navy. Last week I talked about what makes communities work, with shared language, shared values, and shared interests, in ways that can’t be contrived or forced. Let’s frame those points in the perspective of life in Guthrie. This town definitely has a wonderful community, and I know this because I’ve seen it in action. I see it every day, in fact. I have lived in many places and visited many more, and I have rarely seen a place with the level of civic spirit and concern that enlivens Guthrie yearround.

Russ said Oklahoma 529 is a smart choice and a flexible way for Oklahomans to save for education expenses.
