What a way to open the season! Guthrie High’s Lady Bluejays softball team won its first six games in a four-day span, starting at the Pryor Festival on Aug. 8 with a 5-2 win against Coweta and an 11-0 rout of Claremore.

Lady Bluejays runners win opening meet in Enid

Guthrie High’s cross country teams got off to a running start in a 2-mile season-opening meet at Enid on Saturday. The girls won their three-team division over Enid 21-34, while the boys were second to the host school, 44-24.

New district alignments for basketball, baseball

District realignments for the 2023-24 basketball season and the next two baseball seasons were approved last week by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association. Guthrie High has the 45th-largest average daily membership, according to the OSSAA at 999 students and is 13th out of 32 schools in Class 5A.

The Pollard Theatre Breathes New Life into Prominent Musical and Theatrical Works

The Pollard’s 36th year of operation begins in September, and the producing company plans to showcase a variety of concerts and mainstage events for their 2023-2024 season; titled Transformations, the theatre explores the growth of relationships, music, character, and ambitions in six installments over the next year. Audiences can expect nostalgia, hilarity, history, and even dancing!

Guthrie volunteer champions children, dogs, the elderly... and the library

Volunteering to assist the most vulnerable people, children and seniors over the past seven years just might be the most rewarding part of Tricia Wisehart’s retirement. She’s been volunteering in the Guthrie community for many years, encouraging children to read with the Friends of the Library, saving dogs with the Great Pyrenees Rescue Project, volunteering with United Way and delivering Meals on Wheels weekly.

The Guthrie schools fall sports season kicked off officially with the Meet The Bluejays event at Jelsma Stadium this past Friday. In spite of continuing record high heat, the event was well-attended, the east stands full of enthusiastic Bluejay boosters.

Logan 4-H members earn over 100 awards from past year

Dozens of children and young adults won plaques, medals and certificates on Tuesday for their work in the 4-H Club at the Logan County Extension educational building. Surfboards and floral necklaces were part of the decor, signifying the 2022-2023 theme: “Surf the waves of success.” The annual achievement banquet resulted in more than 120 honors awarded to their members in several categories, such as clothing design, cooking, fruit and veggie sculpting, speech, and shooting sports.
