According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), families with children in elementary, middle and high school will spend $890 on average for school items, while those with collegeaged students are looking at more than $1,360 in shopping expenses.

Congratulations to Tikori “Ty” Pierce!

Tikori Pierce was recently accepted into an academic program at Langston University in Animal Science. He graduated with honors from Guthrie High School in 2023, maintaining a high-grade point average, (GPA-3.004.00) as well as playing on both the Blue Jays football and 5A wrestling teams. His hard work earned him membership in the schools National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Math Club. Because of these academic and athletic accomplishments, he was accepted into the Oklahoma Academic Scholars Program, thus, a 2023 recipient of the Oklahoma State Regents Scholarship for academically outstanding students and the Dr. Mae Frances Leach 2023 College Scholarship for LU attendees.

Logan County Board approves a series of contracts

The Logan County Board of Commissioners Thursday approved an inter-local agreement with the City of Cimarron City and District 3. The agreement states that District 3 will provide labor and equipment, and Cimarron City will provide materials for repairs to streets located in city limits.

Cagle enjoys the challenge as Coyle’s new superintendent

Colby Cagle, a 22-year-plus veteran teacher, editor and administrator, is the new superintendent for the Coyle Public School district, where he takes over for Terry Zink, who retired June 30. Cagle recently was an editor and publisher for the writing and curriculum development at Oklahoma State University’s Fire Protection Publications department and held that position for six years.

Mr. James Allan Simpson inducted to OAEE Hall of Fame

The Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame, Inc. (OAAE) announces the induction of Langston University Professor, Mr. James Allan Simpson as a member of the 2023 class of OAAE Hall of Fame inductees. The induction ceremony will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City. Doors will open at 6:30P.M. and the event will begin at 7:00 P.M.

Each year in the United States, about 2,400 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in men, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Macmillan Cancer Support says men have a small amount of breast tissue behind their nipples, where breast cancer potentially can develop. Signs of male breast cancer include a lump or swelling in the breast, redness or flaky skin in the breast, irritation or dimpling of the skin around the nipple, nipple discharge, or pulling in or pain of the nipple.
