Guthrie secures $5.1 million for major upgrades

More than $5 million in federal grants and matching funds will be flowing in to provide money for critical infrastructure projects within the City of Guthrie. Eddie Faulkner, City Manager for Guthrie, sat down to talk with the News Leader this past week about the status of funding and how the projects are moving forward.

2023 Logan County Free Fair 4-H &; FFA Exhibit Winners

The Logan County 4-H membership consists of close to 200 students. There are five community clubs including Guthrie, South Logan County, Coyle, Crescent, and Mulhall-Orlando. Also, there are two project clubs, Shooting Sports, and Robotics. Each student works hard every year in their project area and many in more than one project area.

The Guthrie Rotary Club Student of the Week is Tyler Lawson. He is the son of Alana Jackson and Justin Lawson. Tyler has been active in Band for 7 years and JROTC for 4 years. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. Tyler enjoys doing community service with the JROTC at the Oklahoma Food Bank and Backpacks for Kids. After graduation, Tyler plans to attend OSU and go into the Air Force ROTC and become an officer in the Air Force. Livestock Judging - We had a livestock judging team compete. Participants include: Ridge Garrett, Tate Simmons, Ronni Adams, Maddison Grindle, Ayden Potter, and Britt Drake Dairy Judging - We had two teams competing.

Mineral Wells Park Hosts Annual Corvair Roundup

Guthrie is well-known for classic architecture, and also for classic cars, with several local car shows every year. This year, however, Guthrie’s classic car aficionados are in for a new treat: classic Chevrolet Corvairs are coming to town. The Central Oklahoma Corvair Association will be hosting their annual Great Plains Corvair Roundup in Guthrie this weekend, from Friday through Sunday.

As the current Farm Bill expiration date approaches Sept. 30, and Congress continues to stall in advancing a new one, American family farmers and ranchers, who have a direct stake in the outcome, mobilized to Washington D.C. Sept. 17-22 to assert their position on key bills during their second Farm Bill summit in two months. The Organization for Competitive Markets (OCM), Competitive Markets Action (CMA), and members of the Alabama Contract Poultry Growers Association, Kansas Cattlemen’s Association, National Dairy Producers Organization, American Grassfed Association, and others, rallied in our Nation’s Capital in nearly 100 meetings this week.
