GPD receives traffic safety grant

The Guthrie Police Department has been awarded a traffic safety grant through the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office for the purpose of decreasing collisions and trafficrelated injuries and fatalities. According to a news report, the police department will increase their presence in areas prone to collisions and where traffic complaints have been received, and will be watching for speeding, impaired driving, inattentive/reckless driving, seatbelt violations, dangerous vehicles, disobedience to traffic controls, and other offenses.

Wings of Hope vigil offers hope, awareness on domestic violence

“October is all about spreading awareness for domestic violence, but we can’t forget about it come Nov. 1, or the other 11 months of the year.” That was the meaningful advice from Wings of Hope Community Outreach Coordinator Coy McPeek as the First United Presbyterian Church hosted its second annual candlelight vigil Wednesday, honoring survivors and victims of domestic abuse.

Have you, or someone you know, recently been the victim of an unreported vehicle burglary in the area of I-35 and State Highway 33 in northeast Guthrie? If so, we may have items belonging to you. Today an officer investigating a disturbance located approx. $8k-10k worth of stolen goods in the possession of Richard Butts, 01/13/1987, who was arrested on several felony counts related to the thefts. It is believed the items recovered were taken from vehicles parked at area hotels over the last 2 months. If you have any information or were the victim of a theft in the area during the time frame, please contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 405-282-3535.

Guthrie man arrested on child pornography charges

A Guthrie man has been arrested and faces several charges in a child pornography case. Wyatt Bartels, age 27, was arrested and booked into the Logan County Jail for Aggravated Possession of Child Pornography, Child Sexual Exploitation, and Violation of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.

Tigers ring up 61 points against Hinton at Homecoming

Story by Mike Monahan Crescent High’s Tigers remained unbeaten by celebrating Homecoming Night with a 61-7 rout of Hinton, a district victory sparked by an explosive 41-point first half. The Tigers are now 7-0 overall (3-0 in the district) with three games remaining.

Quilts of Honor, of Guthrie, Oklahoma, quilted hugs of gratitude for Veterans. The American Legion LeBron Post 58 Guthrie was the location for Saturday’s ceremony where several Quilts of Honor members and fellow Americans, showed “they care” and thanked Veterans for their sacrifice and service.
