WINTER WEATHER: Highway Conditions Alert 2-12-21 as of 4 p.m.

Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews are reporting highways statewide as dry and clear from this week's ice storm.

While this is the last report for this event, drivers should begin to plan ahead for a major snowfall event occurring this weekend through much of next week. Those who can delay travel during the holiday weekend are encouraged to do so.

ODOT crews have restocked salt and sand supplies to meet highway safety needs statewide and have prepared equipment for the next storm.

Motorists can prepare for the next winter weather event by saving https://www.okroads.org or downloading the Drive Oklahoma mobile app.

REMEMBER during snowy and icy conditions, motorists are asked to:

  • Stay about 200 feet behind road clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.
  • Allow extra space between vehicles to provide adequate distance for braking.
  • Be aware of "black ice," which looks wet on the roadway but is a thin layer of ice.
  • Be patient, plan trips ahead and allow extra time in reaching destinations.
