‘Flannels and Flu Prevention!’
The Logan County Health Department will host a drive-thru flu vaccination event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8.
The “Flannels and Flu Prevention!” event will be held at the Logan County Health Department, 215 Fairgrounds Road, Suite A, in Guthrie. Flu vaccines will be available to individuals 12 and older.
No appointment is necessary. Vaccines will be administered on a firstcome, first-served basis while supplies last.
Annual flu vaccination is recommended for individuals 6 months and older. Health officials say increasing vaccination rates can help reduce the spread of flu in families, schools and communities.
“Each year, the flu causes serious illness that can lead to hospitalization,” said Maggie Jackson, regional administrative director for District 2 County Health Departments. “Vaccination is one of the best ways to help prevent severe illness. We especially encourage those at higher risk for serious flu complications to get vaccinated.”
Those at higher risk for serious flu complications include adults 65 and older, pregnant women, children younger than 2 and people with chronic conditions such as diabetes or heart disease.
Some children may qualify for no-cost vaccines through the CDC’s Vaccines for Children program. Oklahoma children 18 and younger who are uninsured, underinsured, enrolled in SoonerCare or American Indian/Alaska Native are eligible.
