What to know this holiday weekend in Guthrie

Tomorrow, we celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends._ For some, the holidays started earlier with all Logan County schools being closed for the week. So, be extra careful as you drive.

There will be the normal number of closings on Thanksgiving with no mail delivery. City of Guthrie offices, the Logan County courthouse, commissioners’ offices, many state offices, and doctor’s offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. All of the local banks are closed on Thursday and_ Interbank_ will close early_on Friday at 1 p.m.

The First Capital Trolley is closed Thursday, and Highland Hall is closed Thursday and Friday, so there will be no lunch delivery on either day. The senior pass for free rides from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. is not valid Friday with Highland Hall being closed.

Guthrie News Leader offices also will be closed Thursday and Friday for employees to enjoy time with their families. The office will reopen Monday at 8 a.m.

Most stores are closed on Thanksgiving Day, including Walmart. There will be online shopping available and the store will open at 6 a.m. on Friday. CashSaver is OPEN. 

Most local businesses and downtown businesses will be open Friday, but call ahead as most do not open until 10 a.m. Local restaurants will be closed Thursday, but will open for the weekend.

Saturday is the annual Lighted Christmas Parade through downtown starting at 6 p.m. The new Territorial Governor and Junior Territorial Governor will be announced after the parade at the corner of Harrison and South Second Street in front of the State Capital Publishing Museum. Then, they will light the Territorial Tree in Honor Park (next to the museum). The parade will begin at the Scottish Rite Temple.

Saturday is also Shop Local Saturday, a program started nationally several years ago. Be sure to check out our local merchants for unique Christmas gift ideas.

The Pollard Theatre also opens its annual show, “A Territorial Christmas,” on Friday night. If you have not seen the show, it is highly recommended. Tickets are available through the box office.
