Lady Bluejays second at Pauls Valley track meet

Wind, rain and cold didn’t slow Guthrie High’s Lady Bluejays, who finished second in the Jack Hays Memorial track meet last week at Pauls Valley.

Guthrie compiled 104 points, only trailing the host school, which has 122.

The boys team placed fourth with 59 points. Tuttle led the way with 87.

The Lady Bluejays scored a majority of their points with the relay teams.

The 4x100 and 4x200 teams finished second, both behind John Marshall. In the 4x100 race, Guthrie ran 53.4 and John Marshall ran 51.45. In the 4x200, Guthrie ran 1:52.7 and John Marshall was timed in 1:51.9.

The Lady Bluejays also took second in the 4x800 in 10:41.8, compared to Pauls Valley’s winning time of 10:25.9. In the 4x400, Guthrie finished third in 4:27.1, again behind Pauls Valley.

Peyton Read finished third in the 800-meter run in 2:37.5, 9 seconds behind the winning time of 2:28.0.

Kamryn Boller ran the 1,600 and 3,200 races, finishing sixth and third. In the 3,200, she ran 12:24.8, 26 seconds behind the winning time, and in the 1,600, her 5:49.7 clocking was 16 seconds behind the winning time.

In the hurdles, Cheyenne Gaymon was second in the 300 at 51.38, just behind the winning time of 50.89. In the 100 hurdles, Mary Vaughn finished fifth in 19.68.

In the high jump, Alayna Wallace, Lily Rechlin and Vaughn finished third, fourth and sixth, respectively to get some valuable team points. Wallace and Rechlin cleared 4 feet, 10 inches and Vaughn cleared 4-8.

In the pole vault, Brooklyn Toomey finished third at 8-6. Vaughn, Savannah Rodriguez and Brianna Powell had vaults of 7-6 and 7-0.

On the boys side of the meet, Lance Sallee led the way with a second-place finish in the 1,600 with a time of 4:54.1, 11 seconds behind the winner.

In the relay events, Guthrie placed second in the 4x800 with a time of 8:54.4 and third in the 4x400 in 3:38.8.

In the field events, Harper finished third in the high jump, clearing 5-8, while Jaylen Chelf was sixth in the long jump at 17-10.

Dayton Hoaglin was third in the pole vault at 9-6; Isaac Talley took fourth at 9-0; and Eli Yearout was seventh at 7-0.

In the hurdle races, Lael Dressen and Gideon Heil competed in both the 110- and 300-meter events but did not place in the top six. They both ran 17.99 for the 110 and Dressen edged his teammate, 45.83 to 47.25, in the 300.

In the 200, Nate Benford, Kyran Axtell and Gregory Stevenson all finished in the top 15 of a field of 75 runners.

The teams are scheduled to go to Southmoore on Friday for their next meet.
