As part of their ongoing 40th anniversary celebration, the Friends of the Guthrie Library recently spent time spreading the love of reading throughout the community by stocking Little Libraries around Guthrie.
The Friends of the Guthrie Library is a volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the Guthrie Public Library and promoting literacy and a love of reading in the community. Throughout its 40th anniversary year, the group has been finding ways to give back and make books more accessible to local residents.
One of those efforts has been refreshing and restocking Little Librar- ies throughout town. Little Libraries, sometimes called Little Free Libraries, are small, neighborhood book-sharing boxes where people can take a book to read or leave a book for someone else. The concept encourages reading, sharing and community connections by making books available in convenient locations.
By adding books to these neighborhood libraries, the Friends are helping ensure that readers of all ages have access to something new to discover.
The project is part of the Friends’broader 40th anniversary celebration, which has included refreshing bookshelves at the Highland Park Senior Center, the YMCA and Guthrie Head Start.
The Friends hope their efforts continue to encourage Guthrie residents to pick up a book, share one with a neighbor and discover the simple joy of reading.
