The murder trial of Daniel Joseph Triplett opened today with jury selection, in the courtroom of Logan County District Judge Philip Corley.

The initial jurors were selected by random drawing, and Judge Corley excused five jurors of the initial people called; two knew the victim, two knew the defendant, and one had heard extensive outside facts of the case.

Additionally, during the State’s voir dire, Judge Corley dismissed one juror due to inattention to the questioning and proceedings. “I don’t feel you are taking this seriously,” Judge Corley said.

By the end of the day both the prosecution and the defense had used most of the peremptory challenges, but the jury selection process was not completed.

Judge Corley announced prior to the lunch recess that the trial proceedings will not be held this Friday, April 21, as it is a county holiday, and next Monday, April 24, due to the normal court docket.

Jury selection will resume tomorrow morning at 9:00am.
