The Guthrie High School basketball teams take the short trip down Highway 33 this weekend for the Buckle of the Wheatbelt Invitational Tournament in Kingfisher.

The tournament starts tomorrow with the Lady Bluejays playing at 9:30 a.m. against Harrah. The Bluejays then follow with a 10:45 a.m. game against Oklahoma Christian Academy (OCA).

The Lady Bluejays (5-6) will be coming off an emotional game with conference rival Piedmont that was played in Guthrie. The girls lost a couple of tight games last week to Shawnee and Harding Charter. Harrah (4-5) is a Class 4A team that will not have played in a week. Tournament host Kingfisher (9-3) and OKC Storm are on the other side of the Lady Bluejays’ bracket.

The Bluejays (3-6) will also be coming off a rivalry game with Piedmont (0-10) from Tuesday night. The Bluejays will be playing a tough Class 2A team that recently won the Mulhall-Orlando Invitational earlier in the month. OCA will also be coming off a rivalry game, as they were scheduled to play Oklahoma Christian School.

The bad news is that the winner of Thursday’s game will probably get Kingfisher (11-1), the Class 4A top-ranked team in the state, that has only lost to Edmond Memorial, the Class 6A top-ranked team in the state. Guthrie played the Yellowjackets last year in the tournament final.
