It was winter Homecoming in Coyle last week that culminated with senior Aubrey Taylor being named Homecoming queen and junior Santana Clark the Homecoming King.

However, it was a rough night on the court for the Bluejacket teams, as the Lady Bluejackets gave the ball away twice in the final minute of the game to see a 34-31 lead turn into a 38-34 loss to Oilton. The Bluejackets then got behind early when Oilton could not miss from three-point range, and despite Kris Boynton’s 35 points, they dropped a 63- 53 decision. The Bluejackets led at the half 30-27, but a six-point third quarter did the home team in.

The good news is that it is tournament week in Coyle and if you want to see three local schools play, then starting tomorrow, the

Coyle gym is the place to be. Crescent, Mulhall-Orlando and Coyle will be represented in both the boys’ and girls’ brackets.

The tournament starts at 10 a.m. with the Coyle girls’ team taking on Southwest Covenant. The Crescent Lady Tigers are in action at 12:40 p.m. against Watonga, and the Mulhall-Orlando Lady Panthers drew top seeded Okarche at 3:20 p.m.

In the boy’s bracket, the Crescent Tigers will start their tournament weekend at 11:20 a.m. against Southwest Covenant, the hosting Bluejackets play Watonga at 2 p.m. and the Mulhall-Orlando Panthers play the Oilton Panthers at 4:40 p.m. The top seed on the boy’s bracket is Okarche, and they play Okeene in the nightcap at 7:20 p.m.

The tournament will wind down on Saturday and all teams will play one game each day. There will be social distancing enforced in the stands, and masks will be required to get into the tournament.

The Bluejackets also received notice on January 15 that they were going to be a district host school this year. The tournament will be a four-team showdown with teams from Shidler, Mason and Wesleyan Christian coming to Coyle for a double elimination tournament in early February. Dates and brackets have not been finalized yet.
