Bluejackets split on Senior Night against Ripley

Coyle High’s basketball teams came away with a split on Senior Night against Ripley, the boys winning 40-39 and the girls losing 52-28 to a ranked squad.

Seniors honored in the Feb. 3 pregame ceremonies were Sierra Young, Brody Cromes, Dillan Holder, Miguel Howell, Kiana Rosas, Naliyah McLaurin and Lacy Rapp. In the boys game, the Bluejackets led 38-33 going into the final quarter and held on to win. Howell led the way with 13 points, while Holder and Alex Jennings each had nine. Jace Lemons and Joaquin Amaro added seven and two points, respectively.

The Lady Bluejackets were limited to two points in the second quarter as Ripley extended a 13-11 advantage to 30-13 at halftime and then outscored the hosts 15-5 in the final quarter.

Young led the way with 14 points. McLaurin, who had scored in double figures most of the season, had only two points.

Coyle will host a district round of games this weekend.

The Davenport girls (5--15) will play Wellston (1011) on Friday night with the winner advancing to a Saturday night game with the Lady Bluejackets (11-10) at 6.

The Wellston boys (166) will play Davenport (10-11) Friday night in the nightcap with the winner getting the Bluejackets (16-5) on Saturday night at 7:30.

The winners and losers from Saturday night will advance to the regional at Okarche on Feb. 16-18.
