Guthrie’s ‘89er Days Parade and Celebration takes place April 18th - 22nd, and it is fast approaching. The ‘89er Committee and the City of Guthrie are working hard to finalize the preparations, and they are reaching out to the community for help in several areas.

Parade entry forms are needed as soon as possible from all who would like to enter the parade. This helps to coordinate the order in which the parade will be staged and prevent large gaps or slow downs in the fun and entertainment. All remaining food trucks and vendors are also encouraged to go ahead and get their applications in soon. Parade forms and vendor applications are available at 89erdays.com/-89ers-forms. html.

With the return of the Chuck Wagon Feed and Auction, donations are needed to be auctioned off to benefit Logan County veterans and the work the American Legion does for them, as well as for future ‘89ers Celebrations benefiting all of Guthrie. Items to be auctioned can be of any size or value. Anything from a small, dinner-for-two gift card to a big, themed gift basket to services and goods to outrageously generous, large items are acceptable.

Sponsorships are also still needed for this year’s parade and carnival and some of the events during the week. Those who donate funds to the ‘89ers event will receive a great deal of benefit in return. Each will be recognized at the Chuck Wagon Feed Dinner and Auction, as well as special benefits for each level of giving.

Platinum Sponsorships of $5,000 or more receive three 3x5 banner placements in the parade; their company logo on all advertising media; mentions throughout the parade live stream; a vendor booth; 15 carnival wristbands; and 15 collector ‘89er Buttons.

Diamond Sponsorships of $2,000 or more receive one 3x5 banner placement in the parade; their company logo on all advertising media; mentions throughout the parade live stream; 5 carnival wristbands; and 5 collector ‘89er Buttons.

Bronze Sponsorships of $500 or more receive one 3x5 banner placement in the parade; mentions throughout the parade live stream; 2 carnival wristbands; and 2 collector ‘89er Buttons. All other ‘89ers Supporters who donate $200 or more will see their logo on the ‘89ers website and 2 collector ‘89er Buttons.

To make a donation for the auction or to donate funds as a sponsor, contact the American Legion at (405) 282-2589, or email: lebronpost58@lebronpost58.org. Your donations are tax deductible.

Sponsors and participants are also being sought for the “First In State” Fun Run event during the ‘89ers Celebration. The Fun Run is hosted by the cadets in the ‘89er Battalion, Guthrie High School JROTC.

As a “fun run” all competitive runners are encouraged to participate. Recreational runners as well as walkers are welcome. People are welcome to walk their dogs or push a stroller, or simply enjoy the fellowship of friends and neighbors. This is a community fund-raising event for Guthrie students, and the proceeds will support educational and leadership training opportunities for the students in JROTC. A portion of the proceeds will also support veteran organizations and charities.

The “First in State” Fun Run will take place on Saturday, April 22nd, 2023 at 9:00 a.m., starting at Honor Park. The cost to participate is ages 0 - 5 years (and dogs) are free; ages 6 - 18 years are $10; and ages 19 and up are $20. To register, go to: runsignup.com/race/OK/ Guthrie/FirstInStateFun-Run.
