Twenty-five years later, the events of Sept. 11, 2001, remain etched in the nation’s memory.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the terrorist attacks, including six Oklahomans. Their loss was felt not only by their families and friends, but by communities across the state and nation.
As the 25th anniversary approaches, we remember those who never made it home and honor the families and loved ones who have carried their memories forward.
We also remember the men and women who responded that day — firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, military members and countless others who ran toward danger to help those in need.
Their courage came at an extraordinary cost. Many first responders and others who worked at the attack sites in the days, months and years that followed faced lasting health consequences.
A quarter-century later, the names and stories of those lost remain a reminder of the lives behind the tragedy and the courage displayed in its aftermath.
We remember those we lost. We honor those who responded. We stand with the families who continue to carry their memories.
We will never forget.
