This past weekend the Guthrie Noon Lions Club sponsored a free health screening program for the community. The screening included: Glaucoma testing; visual acuity; cholesterol levels; high blood pressure checks; basic lung functioning and bone density tests.

Thanks to the Regional Food Bank’s Summer Feeding Program any child, 18 and under, can receive free, nutritious meals and snacks all summer long across central and western Oklahoma.

Edmond resident and developer Hal French once envisioned his interactive park, dubbed the Uncommon Ground Sculpture Park, becoming a reality. But, last week, French sent a letter to City officials that he and his foundation were ending their venture to build and donate a 62-acre sculpture park proposed for the northwest corner of East Second Street and North Coltrane Road.

Guthrie public library kicked off its summerlong carnival-themed event this week, aimed at encouraging lifelong reading habits and developing a love for books. Now through July 15, the library is hosting engaging activities for children, tweens, teens and adults.

Nathan Pennypacker has been selected to be the new Boys Basketball Coach at Guthrie High School. He replaces Sean Morgan, who resigned following a five year run at the helm. Pennypacker comes to GHS from Mangum High School where he led the Tigers to multiple conference championships and successful playoff runs.
