Guthrie track teams score at rainshortened suburban meet

Guthrie High’s track teams completed their regular season in the rainshortened Suburban Conference meet on Friday and piled up a number of wins in their respective classes.

The Lady Bluejays varsity team only had 11 events scored and finished second with 85 points, The boys varsity placed sixth with 35 points in 13 events. Normally, 17 events are scored in a track meet.

In the ninth grade division, Guthrie’s girls finished fourth with 49 points in 10 events and the boys also placed fourth, with 63 points in 13 events.

Among the highlights: Girls varsity: Anjewl Murillo (1:02.03) and Alyana Wallace (1:04.36) got the Lady Bluejays on the scoreboard with a 1-2 finish in the 400-meter run. In the 800, Raley Hooper (2:40.46) and Kristie Botello (2:45.10) finished 5-6 to garner some more points.

Cheyenne Gaymon won the 100 hurdles in 16.40 and finished second in the 300 hurdles in 51.58. Mary Vaughan was third in the 100 hurdles (17.59).

In the relay races, Guthrie won the 4x800 in 10:33.09 with Peyton Read, Hannah Smith, Botello and Hooper. In the 4x200, Wallace, Murillo, Gaymon and Read placed fourth in 1:50.38.

In the field events, Rechlin was second in the long jump at 14-8 and Bethany Powell was fourth at 14-1.

Girls ninth grade: Taylor Mays was a double winner in the 100-meter hurdles (18.90) and the 300 hurdles (55.40). Chloe Sanders was third in both races with times of 19.52 and 58.58.

Oliviah Bryan placed fourth in the 100 meters, while Jadence Foster was sixth in the 800.

In the relay races, Guthrie ran 1:59.68 in the 4x200 to finish second with Bryan, Sanders, Mays and Saphera White on the team.

Boys varsity: In the 3,200 race, Lance Sallee (10:12.56) finished in second place and James Bickell (11:28.29) was sixth for the Bluejays.

Kyran Axtell grabbed some points with a sixthplace finish in the 400.

In the hurdle races, Lael Dressen was fourth (46.11) in the 300 and seventh (18.04) in the 100. Gideon Hiel finished sixth in the 100 hurdles (17.22) and seventh in the 300 (47.43).

In the relay races, the boys finished were fourth in the 4x100 in 43.92. Axtell, Jaylen Chelf, Marshall Self and Alex Juarez were on the team. In the 4x200 relay, the team of Axtel, Nate Benford, Chelf, and Self finished third in 1:32.88.

Boys ninth grade: Eli Yearout won the 300 hurdles race in a time of 48.44.

Amare Watson, Zane Thomas and Elijah Smith led the way with a 3-4-7 finish in the 100-meter dash.

In the 3,200, Corbin Madison was third in 11:09.90.

Guthrie was second in the 4x100 and the 4x200 with the team of Smith, Watson, Thomas and Chase Todd running 45.69 and 1:37.06, respectively. In the high jump, Todd placed third.
