David Cameron Smith announced as new Director of Library Services

The City of Guthrie is pleased to announce and welcome David Cameron Smith as the new Director of Library Services. Mr. Smith will officially start with the City of Guthrie Municipal Library on Tuesday, February 21st, 2023.

Mr. Smith has seven years of previous Library experience including serving as a Lead Librarian, Access Manager, and most recently Engagement Manager for the Metropolitan Library System. The Metropolitan Library System is a public library system consisting of 19 libraries that serves Okla- homa County, Oklahoma.

Cameron has a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Education from the University of Arkansas, and a Juris Doctor from Louisiana State University Law Center.

Cameron was selected by a interview/selection committee consisting of: 1) Candy Ford- Interim Director of Library Services (Assistant Library Director) 29 Years Library Experience 2) Kate Corbett- Retired Librarian/ Masters of Library Service/Six years prior Guthrie Library Board Experience (Served as Chairperson of Library Board) 3) Liz Botello- City of Guthrie Human Resources, Administrative Services Director 4) Leroy Alsup- Guthrie City Manager We’re excited for Mr. Smith to be joining TeamGuthrie! In addition to being Director of Library Services, Cameron will be an active member of the City’s Department Head Management Team.

We look forward to Cameron working with Library Patrons, City Staff, Library Board, Friends of the Library and the general community to continue and enhance the excellent service and programs that our library provides to our community.
