Bluejays grapplers close out regular season with 46-31 win

The Guthrie High School wrestling team closed out their regular season last Thursday with a 46-31 win over Blanchard on Homecoming night in Guthrie. Senior Khaleah Kirk was named Homecoming Queen prior to the dual meet.

Sophomore Kaedin Herendeen (106 pounds) started the night off with a fall at the 1:27 mark to give the ‘Jays an early 6-0 lead. Guthrie would forfeit 113 pounds and Blanchard would forfeit 126 pounds and it was 12-12 after four matches.

Colby Wilder (138 pounds) got a 30-second fall to give Guthrie an1816 lead. Senior Braden Hall would abuse his Blanchard opponent to the point of a 21-6 decision that would ties the match up at 22-22 after 150 pounds. The teams would trade falls at 157 and 165 pounds with Gabe Sanders getting the fall at 5:30 to give Guthrie a 28-22 lead, before Bryson Hall got pinned to tie the score at 28-28.

Tyler Gettings (175 pounds) and Wesley Silvis (190 pounds) would both get falls in under 90-seconds to give the Bluejays a 40-28. Eli Moroney (225 pounds) would lose a 9-2 decision to close Blanchard’s scoring out at 31 points. Moroney was outweighed by 15 pounds and put on a valiant effort in his match.

Nick Herendeen (285 pounds) who was outweighed by 25 pounds made quick work of Ryder Dabbs with a fall in under 60-seconds to close out the 46-31 win.

The Bluejays are now off until regionals on February 13-14 for the girls and Feb.17-18 for the boys. The boys will go to either Pryor or Carl Albert and those assignments will be announced this Friday afternoon. The state tournament in Oklahoma City is February 24-25.

The Guthrie Junior High School team lost their season finale 5522 as Colten Stevens Ayden Smith, Clayton Carey, and Tate Simmons posted wins for the team. The tough luck loser of the night was Sir William Morgan who would go three overtime periods before losing on a fall with five seconds left in the period at 2-2 tie score.
