Guthrie High’s boys golf team had a rough day at the Class 5A regional at Cedar Valley on Monday, falling short of state qualifying by five strokes.
But, three members of the team -- Devin Frey, Britt Drake and Justin Green -- did qualify for the 54-hole state championship individual play in Duncan om May 8-9.
Green led the Bluejays with a 36-hole score of 165 (par 140), while Frey shot 163 and Drake was in at 165.
Eli Poplin (188) and Hank Hinkle (205) were the other Bluejays golfers in the regional.
Gut h r i e’s t e am score was 671, five strokes behind the sixthplace qualifier, Noble (666).
Duncan, the defending state champion, won the regional with a team score of 582. Piedmont (614), Carl Albert (629), Bishop McGuiness (637) and Altus (639) were the other team qualifiers.
Parker Payne of Noble was the regional champion, shooting 4-under 136. Duncan golfers claimed the second-, third- and fourth-place medals.
Along with the three Guthrie golfers, Gavin Martinez of Guymon, Cooper Watson of Lawton Eisenhower and Ramsey Ward of Ardmore are the other individual qualifiers.
