The Cashion Wildcats are Champions of the Three Rivers Conference Tournament for the fourth year in a row. The Wildcats disposed of Thomas Fay-Custer (65-35), Okarche (50-47) and then Watonga in the championship game 51-24 to claim the title. The Wildcats started their week dismantling Oklahoma Bible Academy 6537 on Jan.4. The Wildcats are now 5-3 on the season.
The Wildcats have a busy week hosting Wellston Friday night ( Jan.14), going to Wynnewood this Saturday (Jan. 15) and hosting Class 5A Bishop McGuiness on Jan. 18 before hosting the County Line Tournament Jan.20-22.
In the Thomas game, a 21-3 third quarter scoring advantage sealed the deal for the Wildcats that took a 30-22 halftime lead out to 51-25 going into the fourth quarter. Austin Frazier led all scorers with 32 points.
In the semifinals against rival Okarche Warriors, the Wildcats jumped out to a 25-1 first quarter advantage and hung on from there to get the win. It would be 36-32 by halftime, and the second half saw Okarche outscore the Wildcats 15-14. Frazier led the way with 19 points and Landon LaGasse chipped in 15 points.
In the Saturday night final, it was a close ball game until the fourth quarter. The score was 20-12 at the half and 32-20 after three quarters. The Wildcats would outscore Watonga 19-4 in the final stanza to secure the win. Frazier was the leading scorer for the third game in a row with 21 points. Vance Raney chipped in 10 points The OBA game on Jan. 4 was over at halftime as the Wildcats led 36-11 and it was 62-16 going into the fourth quarter. Nick Nabavi had 15 points, LaGasse had 13 points, Frazier and Raney had 11 points each as 10 different Wildcats scored in the game.
The Cashion LadyCats (3-5) would go 1-2 in Enid last weekend, beating Fairview (46-38), losing to Watonga (54-43) and to OBA 50-40 on Saturday afternoon.
In the Fairview game, the game was tight until the fourth quarter when the LadyCats would distance themselves for the win. Senior Lauren Lamb led the way with 20 points and Brook Shelly chipped in with 12 points. In the Watonga game, Lamb led the way with 16 points. OBA evened the season series on Saturday as Lamb and Lauren Jenkins would score 11 points each to lead the way. Shelly chipped in 10 points as OBA was in front the entire game. The Lady-Cats beat OBA 57-51 in overtime on Jan. 4 as Lamb scored 24 points. Megan Shafer had 12 points and Shelly had 11 points in the winning effort.
The LadyCats schedule mirrors the Wildcats schedule so there is a lot of basketball coming to Cashion in the next 10 days.
