Coyle sweeps Mulhall-Orlando in basketball

Coyle High’s basketball teams swept both games Friday against visiting rival Mulhall-Orlando.

Both Coyle teams are 1-1 with five games scheduled this week, which began Monday night against Glencoe, Tuesday against Waukomis and the Cimarron Tournament over the weekend.

The Lady Bluejackets recorded their first win under new head coach Colby Wagner, 52-31 against the Lady Panthers. Coyle, which outscored the Lady Panthers 29-14 in the second half and took advantage of Mulhall-Orlando’s 7-for-26 free throws.

“I was really pleased with our play,” Wagner said. “We scored much better than we did at Okarche, but we need to cut down on our fouls. The girls have been working really hard and we will continue to get better as the season progresses.”

Naliyah McLaurin led the way with 26 points, while senior Sierra Young chipped in 11. Ryleigh Long, Ashlee Kelly, Lilly Ritter and Kiana Rosas closed out the scoring for the Bluejackets.

Emily Parsons had 11 points and Kaitlyn O’Neal added 8 for the Lady Panthers (2-5), who will host Union City on Dec. 16 for homecoming. They also will travel to the Cimmaron Tournament this weekend.

In the boys game, Coyle suited up 14 players to Mulhall-Orlando’s seven, and opened up a 28-23 halftime lead into a 58-41 victory.

Miguel Howell and Jace Lemons led the Bluejackets with 19 and 13 points, respectively. Alex Jennings, Joaquin Amaro, Dillon Holder and Josiah Amaro also contributed to the offense. Ryan Beier led the Panthers with 26 points.

The Bluejackets will have a rematch with the Panthers in Mulhall on Jan. 31, but are also in the M-O Invitational Jan. 5-7 and the Panthers will be coming to the Coyle Tournament on Jan. 19-21.
