Paws and Claws Poker Night Benefits the Animals

Animal abuse including abandonment, is no joking matter. It is a prevalent problem that continues to be perpetrated needlessly.

Innocent animals are left to fend for themselves after being abandoned, often with no hope of survival due to sustained injuries and lack of outside knowledge. Domesticated animals, even dogs and cats, are unable to properly defend themselves in the wild and end up in terrible lifethreatening situations.

So, to help combat animal abuse and abandonment, the Guthrie Territorial Riders are hosting Poker Night to benefit Helping Community Paws and Claws. Poker Night takes place Saturday, Aug. 13, starting at 7 p.m. at 1101 E. Oklahoma Ave. in Guthrie.

Helping Community Paws and Claws will receive all of the proceeds to help fund the shelter’s medical expenses to offset costs to spay/ neuter, test for disease, or provide other treatment for abused and abandoned dogs and cats that need foster and/or permanent homes.

If you would like to donate and not attend, “that’s fine, too,” the event’s announcement reads. “Come by and drop a donation in the box.”

Helping Community Paws and Claws relies solely on donations and is dedicated to saving lives and helping with the “overpopulation of unwanted animals” one snip at a time. The organization was founded by Lisa New in Guthrie in 2021 and inspired by Von Coburn.
