Alsup to Retire Next Year

City Manager Leroy Alsup, who has overseen visible growth and improvements in Guthrie’s infrastructure and facilities over the past few years, will be retiring in early 2023.

Not only will he leave the city with plenty of physical enhancements, but he also has been responsible for a significant increase in Guthrie’s financial stability over the course of his five-year tenure.

From fiscal year 2017, for example, the general fund started at $386,525. Now, in fiscal year 2022, it has climbed to $1,589,583.

Groundbreaking projects, such as Guthrie’s first disc golf course in 2017, the Banner Park Project in 2018, and the former Logan County Hospital being renovated into a senior living community, are just some examples of Alsup’s commitment to encourage growth, both for original and new structures, in Guthrie.

Additionally, he created a full-time Tourism, Film and Music Office to help support the community’s artistic endeavors. From movies being filmed in downtown to the International Bluegrass Festival, there are many ways to have fun and be involved in Guthrie’s artsy and musical community.

Some films featuring Guthrie include “A Thousand Little Cuts,” “Love on Repeat” and “Reagan: The Movie.”

Alsup also has some future projects in the works for Guthrie before his retirement. They include a shovel-ready industrial park; a pop-up shop court in downtown Guthrie; and new recreational park trails for the public.

A big step in improving utilities is coming with a new Waste Water Treatment Plant already in the works. The structure is targeted for January of 2023, just before Alsup’s retirement in April.

Guthrie residents have much to be thankful for, and Alsup’s mailbox likely will soon be full of well wishes.
