The General Tommy Daniels Dinner was back for the 22nd time on Thanksgiving Day and the volunteers were out as well helping serve and deliver Thanksgiving dinners. Event organizers were hoping to serve over 600 dinners for the event.
There were volunteers there from The Territorial Riders to deliver meals along with several other volunteers. Local homebound seniors that signed up or called in were delivered meals, as well as Langston students, the
Logan County Detention Center, Guthrie Job Corps and of course there was a drive through pick-up and some space to sit down and eat at the American Legion Hall.
The pandemic has changed the way you have to do these meals and event organizers were well prepared.
Those choosing to eat in sat at a table and a volunteer would bring them prepacked dinner that volunteers were preparing as people came to eat. All the desserts were prepacked.
Mayor Steve Gentling was present for some opening remarks and then they found a place in the serving line for him to volunteer.
Congratulations to Reverend Hersey Hammons and Evelyn Nephew and the scores of volunteers that gave up a couple of hours on Thanksgiving to make sure people got a Thanksgiving meal.
