WELCOME TO GUTHRIE HOME OF THE OKLAHOMA ‘89ER DAYS CELEBRATION

Welcome to Guthrie America and the 92nd Annual ‘89er Days Celebration.

Yes, these last 13 months have certainly been hard with the COVID challenges , but we are putting all that in the rear-view mirror, learning from it and then charging straight ahead with a spectacular week of activities! The theme of this year’s Celebration is: Women of the Military, a salute to all the women who have worn the uniform of our nation’s military services.

Yes, the food and craft vendors will be here in huge numbers, the classic cars will be out in force, and the “big wheel race” is all set up for the little ones (and the not so little ones). And speaking of races, the bed race tradition continues but with a different location. There is a rumor that there may be a street dance one evening and I understand this year the Territorial Marshalls will have shows, with live historically correct reenactments of how these men kept the peace in the Oklahoma Territory! Oh, and wait, there will also be a special appearance by Oklahoma’s Favorite Son, Will Rogers, at each one of these presentations. Speaking of history, did you know the Territorial Museum will have free admission on Saturday? It is a grand experience for young and old —- do not miss it.

And of course, the main features; THE carnival and THE parade, are all set to resume “normal” operations. The carnival is bigger and better than ever and provides thrills for all ages. And THE parade; still the largest in Oklahoma with Queens, Princesses, floats, horses, bands, specialty cars and yes, the Shriners will have their street performance in high gear. All this and much much more!

So, buy a button, pick up an official brochure, and make your plans. It will be a great week with grand events for everyone again this year!

Now, we cannot forget what we have learned this past year, so please be mindful of the people around you, take the appropriate precautions and please be safe. We are all so happy that you are here, celebrating this special time with special people and with lots of special events. Welcome to ‘89ers!!
