The University of Central Oklahoma’s Health Promotion program, part of the UCO Center for Counseling and Well-Being, will host a public Prescription Drug Takeback from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. March 26, at the north side of the Wellness Center, located off University Drive on the north side of Central’s campus.
Community members are encouraged to drop off their unwanted, unused or expired prescription medications for safe, proper disposal. Participants can drive up to the north side of the Wellness Center and park along the curb where there will be tables, or park in a space and walk them to the table. No syringes, inhalers or liquids will be accepted.
“Opioids are the most common class of drug involved in Oklahoma overdose deaths and we want to limit overdose and misuse by providing proper disposal of prescription medications,” said Carlie Stout Deatherage, Central’s assistant director of health promotion.
“Our goal is to help the community learn how they can safely store and dispose of medications to help keep their families safe.”
UCO Health Promotion has partnered with the Oklahoma National Guard, DCCCA, Inc., Substance Use Prevention Alliance (SUPA) and UCO Police for the takeback event.
