Tontz Gathering

More than 80 Tontz Family members and guests gathered on the “First Sunday of October.” Since 1942, the Tontz Family and guests have gathered every year (except - 2020-Covid). Hosts were the Martin and Bernie Tontz and Fred and Vivian Tontz families.

City Council approves rejection of Owen Fields bids

The Guthrie City Council Tuesday approved rejecting all bids for Phase 1A of the Owen Fields Softball Facility expansion and retrofit.Bids were received and reviewed on Sept. 25, and of the 19 contractors who were giving specifications and plans, 9 submitted a responsive bid.

Guthrie AJROTC defeats Nokomi

Shooting their highest score of the season Guthrie AJROTC defeated Nokomi AJROTC 869.0 to 774.8 in the 2024 National Sporter Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. Guthrie AJROTC was led by Garrett Looney who shot a 238.6.

Guthrie sees decline in enrollment

The Guthrie Board of Education Monday learned that fall enrollment is down slightly from last year’s numbers.“(Our) October 1st student count was 3,489. It’s down 20 students from last year at that time,” Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson said.

Logan County woman sentenced in cat abandonment case

A Logan County woman was sentenced last week after entering a blind plea deal in a case involving the abandonment of 30 cats in crates at the intersection of Industrial Road and Bachus Road on May 27.Brook Wanzer, along with Jason and Keegan Wanzer, were arrested in connection with the case.
