Ukulele festival will return to Arcadia Round Barn on Sept. 12

ARCADIA – Back by popular demand, the UkeFest will return to the Arcadia Round Barn from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 12. Bands and solo acts will include The Ukulelians, Misspent Ukes, Janice Francis-Smith, the Tulsa Ukulele Club, Jeff Howard, Dustin Cooper, Frank and Scott, Susan House and Stardust.

The Guthrie Rotary Club Student of the Week is Trinity LeGrande. She is the daughter of Chris and Sharolyn LeGrande. Trinity has been active in fastpitch and slowpitch softball, tennis, Link Crew, National Honor Society and is editor of the Yearbook.

Ethel Bowens turns 112!

Guthrie’s own Ethel M. Bowens will be celebrating her birthday on August 26. At the age of 112 years old, Ethel has the distinction of being the oldest living Oklahoman. To celebrate her special day, her family organized a parade in her honor on Saturday, August 21.

City Council Retreat Reaffirms City Plan for Fields, Funding

Guthrie’s City Council Retreat August 13 went according to plan, and the staff quickly learned the results from the questions the council had to vote about through the electronic polling system Guthrie experimented with, making the meeting a total success.
The freshman class includes 4,595 students, with 38% identifying as minorities and a quarter of whom are first-generation college students. This year’s class also holds a higher GPA than any other incoming class, with an average high school GPA of 3.66.

NORMAN, OKLA. – The University of Oklahoma announced that the Class of 2025 is the largest, most diverse and highest academically qualified freshman class in the school’s 131-year history.
