Guthrie wrestlers bring home 4 state titles

Guthrie High’s wrestling team brought home four individual titles Saturday night at the Class 5A State Wrestling Championships in Oklahoma City. Kaiden Herendeen, Eli Kirk and Braden Hall all won boys titles and Khaleah Kirk won in the girls division.

Vance Celebrates 40th Anniversary

John Vance Auto Group will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a community event on Friday, March 3rd, starting at 11am. The Vance Auto Group locations in Woodward and Miami will also host 40th anniversary celebration events on March 3rd.

BancFirst Guthrie Announces Prize Winner

BancFirst Guthrie recently conducted a promotion that entered customers into a drawing for an opportunity to win a $500 Walmart gift card. Marla Belcher was the lucky winner. “This was a fun promotion for us to run for Guthrie,” said BancFirst Guthrie president La-Verne Dowding.

Special Use Permit Approved

On Tuesday, Guthrie City Council unanimously approved Judge Frank Dale’s house special use permit for a bed and breakfast. 201 N. 13th. Built in 1902 by Judge Frank Dale, designed by JH Bennet, who also designed the Carnegie Library.

The governor last week delivered his annual State of the State Address during the first day of the legislative session. There was much to applaud in the governor’s speech. He mentioned our work over the past four years of eliminating our budget deficit and replenishing state savings.

The News Leader sat down with Guthrie High head baseball coach Terry Bennett to discuss the upcoming varsity baseball season. Coach Bennett feels he’s got a really solid team already, with a core of six seniors who have been starting since they were sophomores, and eight seniors total.
