Reviving The Elbow’s storied history

Although now abandoned, an area known as The Elbow remains a silent, yet significant part of the history of Guthrie, Okla.This predominantly African American neighborhood was more than just homes to the people who lived there, but a community with schools, businesses and a hospital.

Every Tuesday, laughter echoes through the meeting room at the Guthrie Public Library as members of the Good Friends Book Club gather for what has become a more than 20-year tradition of friendship, inclusion and joy.

Crescent Speech Squad Posts Strong Showing at Annual Tournament

The Crescent Speech Squad competed Feb. 6-7 at the annual speech tournament in Rush Springs, earning multiple regional qualifications and top finishes.In the qualifying division, McKayla Henning and Serenity Holub placed first in Public Forum Debate.

The Guthrie Rotary Club’s Students of the Week are Ilamae Smith and Luke Lyons. Ilamae is the daughter of Denise Smith. She is active in Bluejay wrestling and Student Council. She was the wrestling Homecoming Queen. She enjoys doing community service.

Allegations, Disputes Highlight Failed Vote to Remove Aguirre

Feb. 3. A motion to remove Councilman Grant Aguirre from the Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport Board failed Tuesday night after the Guthrie City Council voted 4-3 in favor of removal, falling short of the two-thirds majority required for approval.
