Pregnant Woman Arrested for Child Rape

Tyronea Powell, a 23 year old Guthrie woman, was arrested on a charge of first degree rape of a 13 year old boy.

Powell was down on her luck and moved in with family friends to regain her footing. Powell, who is now pregnant, was permitted to stay for approximately two years with the homeowner and their family, including their underage children. Over the course of her staying with the family, she resided in the den area. After about a year it took a turn for the worse, according to the arrest affidavit.

On April 10 the homeowner’s daughter witnessed her brother with Powell in the midst of sexual intercourse. When she asked what they were doing, Powell pretended to be asleep. After the interaction with Powell and her brother, she alerted their mother to the incident, who then forced Powell to leave and called the police. The 13 year old denied any sexual contact with Powell.

On April 11 the son met with Lt. Mark Bruning at the Guthrie Police Department where they discussed the incident. He stated again that nothing had happened between him and Powell.

On May 5 the son admitted to family during an emotional break-down that he and Powell had, on several occasions, had sexual intercourse. When speaking with the police, he stated that he and Powell had intercourse between 10- 11 times from the summer of 2021 until they were caught on April 10 by his sister. When asked if it is possible that Powell is carrying his child, said he didn’t know. According to his account, neither he nor Powell had forced themselves on the other sexually.

While the sexual encounters between Powell and the son may have been consensual, the son cannot give legal consent until the age of 16 in Oklahoma. A DNA cheek swab from the son has been collected and will be compared to the DNA of Powell’s unborn child, to determine if he is the father.

With the release of the initial warrant of first degree rape, Powell turned herself in and her court date is set for July 28, 2022 at 9 a.m.

This is an ongoing story.
