New Head Coach Balenseifen to Lead GHS Cross Country

Bryce Balenseifen was named the Guthrie High School cross country’s head coach at Monday’s Board of Education meeting.

Balenseifen, who ran at Deer Creek High School, Oklahoma State and Idaho State, comes to Guthrie from Putnam City North, where he spent the last two seasons as the Panther’s head coach. He brings plenty of experience as a past (2014) All-City Runner of the Year. He won three consecutive state individual championships and four team titles with Deer Creek. Overall, he finished with 22 state championships (eight-team, 14 individuals). He spent three seasons running at Oklahoma State and one season at Idaho State.

When asked about his new position at Guthrie High School, Balenseifen said, “I’m very excited to be a part of Guthrie Cross Country. I’ve always thought Guthrie was a special place and a place I could see myself at one day. I have a big vision for the program, and I believe we have the right coaches, administrators, tools and – most importantly- the right kids to make that vision a reality.”

Balenseifen takes the position from Clay Tarter, a Guthrie Hall of Fame member, who passed away in June.
