Love is Love in Guthrie

While the world may have hatred and cruelty at every turn, there is always hope for a brighter tomorrow through love and compassion.

As resounding proof of the power of love, the calendar flips into Pride month once again. The Guthrie community is celebrating, by holding a Pride Celebration on June 11th 2022 at 3:30 in the Apothecary Garden off of Oklahoma Avenue.

Celebrate for love and celebrate for those who have been lost along the way. Many know of Pride month but not everyone knows of the celebration’s origins. Among the plethora of anti-LGBTQ+ sentiments, laws and battles fought, there is one event that stated the fire to fight back.

In the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City’s Greenwich Village, was raided by the police. Nearly 400 people joined a riot that lasted 45 minutes and resumed on succeeding nights. “Stonewall” came to be commemorated annually in June with Gay Pride celebrations, not only in U.S. cities but also in several other countries as well. This tragedy is what sparked a revolution for change, not only in the United States, but across the world as well.

So, come out and have a great time celebrating the never ending power of love!
