Council Amends Manual and Appoints Nominations

The Guthrie City Council and Public Works Authority (PWA) met last Tuesday to discuss items pertaining to the Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual for the city. The Council also appointed a new member to the Guthrie Public Library Board as well as the Guthrie Historic Preservation Commission.

After the voting and subsequent unanimous approval of the July 5th Public Works Authority meeting minutes, the PWA discussed and also unanimously approved of change order No. 3 with Young Contracting LLC. This change order increased the original contract for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Section B’s Lift Station by $11,341.69.

Both items’ five and six pertained to Resolution 2022-23 and Resolution 2022-24 and involved discussion and voting on the Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual for the city. 2022-23 only added new contact information to the City’s current Anti-Discrimination and Grievance Procedure Policy, while 2022-24 amended the manual to include section 1400.12 the “Whistleblower Policy”. The “Whistleblower Policy” ensures that anyone who gives information on another will not be reprimanded.

Once the Public Works Authority meeting was adjourned, City Council was called to order and the consent agenda, approving the minutes from July 5th and approving the PWA’s action to ap prove resolution 2022-23 and 2022-24, was passed unanimously.

Following the consent agenda there was unanimous approval of the application of Gracelynn Lorenz to serve on the Guthrie Public Library Board.

“I’ve been very passionate about literacy in youth; I both love the library and support the library to help better the community,” said Lorenz. “We moved to Guthrie last year and I look forward to serving the Guthrie community.”

The Lorenz home is known in town for having the Prairie Moon Little Free Library in front of it, with books available for anyone to read.

The Mayor’s nomination of Menecca Gibbs to serve as a Property Owner for the Guthrie Historic Preservation Commission was also approved unanimously.

“You get out what you put in,” said Gibbs. “You can be a part of the problem or the solution and I choose to help! I’m really excited to work with the community and the city leaders in this position.”

Gibbs is known around town as the owner of Cleveland and Co. Mercantile downtown.
