The Crescent Lady Tigers and Cashion LadyCats met for the second time this season on Saturday (Aug.21) in the winner’s bracket final of the Jacie Stephens Cochran Memorial Tournament in Cashion. The Lady Tigers took advantage of 10 LadyCats errors and won the game 19-4 in four innings.

Guthrie High School hosted “Meet the ‘Jays” on Aug.14 in Jelsma Stadium. The Guthrie High School Booster Club did the cooking as John Vance sponsored a cook-out prior to the event. There were several hundred fans on hand to see what fall sports 2021 was going to look like for Guthrie High School.

Guthrie Lady Bluejays go 3-2 for the week

The Guthrie Lady Bluejays softball team had a solid week last week as they went 3-2 in non-district action. The week started on Aug. 10 with a home game against Putnam City North. The Lady Bluejays took advantage of four hit batters in the first inning to score four times on their way to a 7-1 win.

Coyle School Foundation Golf Tournament Held

There were 42 players in the Coyle School Foundation golf tournament held August 7 at Cimarron Trails.  There were three teams who tied for first prize and a winning playoff occurred.

Guthrie Little League Football season started with the first week of practice on Aug. 2, 2021! Pictured is the 1st/2nd grade team practicing at the Cottonwood Flats located on the corner of 8th & Logan. Jamie Gibbs begins his 7th season as Head Coach of the 1st/2nd grade team.
The Guthrie High School football teams opened practice on Monday morning to get ready for the 2021 season. Practice is in shorts and helmets for the first four days as the teams are practicing twice a day. The shoulder pads go on this Friday morning. The Bluejays will host a scrimmage with Bishop Kelly and Lawton on Friday night Aug. 20 with the freshman starting at 6 p.m. There were 59 kids out for the first varsity practice and approximately 25 freshmen for the ninth grade team.

The 2021 football season is 16 days away with a kick-off in Shawnee on Friday August 27. The fall Guthrie sports teams will celebrate the beginning of their seasons this Saturday night at Jelsma Stadium starting at 6 p.m.

Mulhall-Orlando FFA members attended two major judging competitions in Oklahoma in July. On July 19th, Callen Oldenburg, Daegen Pool, Kaylee Blagden and Baylee Brown attended Northern Oklahoma College’s Sheep Field Days. The team placed 7th and Baylee Brown was 7th high individual overall.

The Guthrie High School Lady Bluejays softball team started official practices this past week and will open their season next week with a series of scrimmages before the season starts Aug. 9 in Guthrie against Western Heights.
